Specifications

Carpet ID CCD4140722
Knot density approx 360 000 knots per m²

You can easily calculate the knot density yourself by counting the number of knots 1 cm down and 1 cm across, and then multiplying these numbers together. Then multiply the total by 10,000 to give the number of knots per m².

Some carpet sellers exaggerate the knot density, so to be sure that you are comparing like for like when it comes to price, it is worth checking the knot density yourself. Most of CarpetVista’s carpets have a photograph of the reverse with a ruler, making it easy to examine the knot quality and count the exact knot density before choosing your carpet.

Pile Wool
Wool is a natural textile fibre and one of the most sought after materials for rug making. Wool rugs are highly durable and perfectly capable of resisting wear and tear of every day use. Wool has a naturally dirt-repelling effect and is easy to keep clean. It is also flame resistant and characteristically retains it’s shape so that the pile of the rug always rises.
Manufacturing Hand knotted
Elaborate weaving technique with specialized artisans tying knots to form rows of pile either by cutting each individual knot or an entire row of knots. Hand-knotting takes time and also allows for intricate patterns.
Also known as Kirman, Kerman
Size 271x401
This carpet is hand knotted/woven; therefore, difference in shape, thickness, pattern and sizes can occur. This applies particularly to nomadic and village carpets.

Antique Kerman Rug carpet from Persia / Iran.

The antique Kerman rugs, crafted in the historic city of Kerman, present a stunning
reflection of Persian artistry and tradition. This city, nestled in an oasis amid arid desert
landscapes, has been a vital center for carpet weaving for centuries, with a legacy that
dates to the Safavid Dynasty. The craftsmanship found in these rugs tells a story of
cultural richness, skillful artistry, and the profound connection between the weavers
and their heritage.
Dating from the early 1900s, these rugs are renowned for their intricate designs and
vibrant color palettes. Each piece often features a harmonious interplay of floral
patterns, with motifs that seem to dance across the surface. The soft light blue
backgrounds are frequently adorned with delicate ivory and rich brown accents,
creating a soothing visual experience that invites one to pause and reflect. The central
medallion design, often defined by elegant swirling cloud bands, serves as a focal point
that radiates outward, embodying a sense of balance and serenity.
The artistry of Kerman rugs lies not just in their beauty but also in their technical
prowess. Weavers employed meticulous hand-knotting techniques that resulted in a
fine and dense pile, enhancing the durability and richness of the texture. The wool used
in these rugs, often sourced from local sheep, is carefully spun and dyed with natural
pigments, allowing for a deep, lustrous finish that gives each piece a unique character.
Over time, these rugs develop a patina that enhances their beauty, with colors
softening into harmonious hues that tell the story of their age.
Historically, Kerman rugs have been known for their adaptability, reflecting changes in
design trends while maintaining their traditional roots. The early 20th century marked a
significant period of evolution for these carpets, as they began to incorporate elements
that appealed to European markets. This blending of styles resulted in a distinctive
aesthetic that has made antique Kerman rugs a cherished choice for collectors and
connoisseurs alike.
The enduring appeal of these rugs lies in their ability to evoke a sense of history and
artistry. They are not merely decorative items; each rug is a testament to the skill and
dedication of the weavers who crafted it, often taking months or even years to complete
a single piece. As such, they are often seen as heirlooms, passed down through
generations and cherished for their beauty and significance.
In any setting, antique Kerman rugs serve as captivating focal points, inviting admiration
and sparking conversation. Their intricate designs and rich textures bring warmth and
character to a space, transcending time and trends. The legacy of Kerman weaving lives
on in each rug, making them timeless pieces that connect us to the rich tapestry of
Persian history and culture.

Excellent Service and Products

I wanted to reserve a carpet as I was abroad when I made my choice and there was only 1 left. I was able to telephone and speak to a very helpful lady who arranged for the carpet to be delivered 2 days after my return 3 weeks later. A week later, I chose another one with a 10% further discount for buying again and that arrived promptly also after another discussion with another helpful lady. I now have 2 fabulous rugs at a very decent price. Yes, the 'Handloom Fringe' carpet is shedding where one sits but I well remember a fitted carpet shedding for 6 months prior to stopping. So I hope it will stop eventually. DPD deliver promptly.
